When a person says they’re going to commit suicide, do not, do NOT, DO NOT FUCKING EVER ASSUME THEY ARE JUST LOOKING FOR ATTENTION. It is one of the MOST common myths about suicide that people who say they’re going to do it are just looking for attention and were never really planning on it. Yes, they are looking for attention; THE ATTENTION OF PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP THEM. Saying you want to kill yourself is a cry for help.

YES, there ARE going to be people who just do it for attention, but if your AUTOMATIC ASSUMPTION is that they’re an attention whore, you need to check your priorities, because that shit is not okay. Ever. 

For every post on my dash I see saying that anyone tonight who said they were going to kill themselves was looking for attention, I just found someone to unfollow, because if you think it’s fine to assume that what could be a legitimate suicide attempt is a grab for attention, then you’re the lowest asshole on the planet and I no longer wish for your presence on my dashboard.

When someone threatens suicide, your first reaction should always be one of concern.

Period.
